Hangover Tips & Cures...

As I suffer through the morning with nausea, and aching head, and a puffy face I ask myself why oh why did I indulge in one too many signature cocktails last night? Seeing as how I'm not perfect (because let's face it if I was I probably wouldn't have a hangover right now...) I've come up with a few tips over the years to get you up & running the morning after a little too much fun (is there such a thing???).

For the headache, nausea, & lack of energy:

Alceseltzer & Emergency. Mix them together, drink, and chase with a tall glass of cold water. I don't know why, but this is hands down the best combo for erasing your hangover. I swear by it & I have people at work that regularly ask me for this now.

For puffy eyes:

Go with a lotion with caffein in it. Or, the night you go out, soak one green tea bag and one regular tea bag in water and put in the fridge. Then the next morning apply the liquid to some cotton balls and put them on your eyes for ten minutes.

For the crankiness:

There is no cure. Just try to remember all the fun and silly times you had and laugh about it. It really is the best medicine.

Being Single On Valentine's Day...

There's nothing wrong with being single. In fact, there are a lot of benefits. Like not having to share a bathroom, having control of the remote, peace & quiet, &  getting the bigger half of EVERYTHING (to name a few). But every February 14th, no matter how much you love being single, it's not uncommon to feel a little blue or ask yourself if you'll ever find that Ryan Gosling lookalike who will make your life complete. While the rest of world (or at least the country) is sharing heart-shaped candies, exchanging mushy cards, & dining out with their special someone you might find yourself slipping into your fat pants & staring down the nearly empty depths of a gallon of Ben & Jerry's while tearfully singing along to All By Myself.
However, being single during this Hallmark holiday doesn't have to be a bummer. If you're looking for ways to spend the day that don't include hiring a paid escort, check out these suggestions:

Pamper and treat yourself to something luxurious and pleasurable. Who says you need a lover to send you a valentine? Buy yourself an awesome new outfit, go to the spa and have your nails/hair done, treat yourself to a decadent dinner...there's no reason you can't be spoiled on Valentine's Day, single or not.
Host a single's Valentine's Day Party.  What's more fun then hosting a get together with good food, cocktails, and friends? Besides, you never know who you might meet...
Volunteer. You know what makes you stop feeling sorry for yourself & start feeling grateful for what you have? Volunteering for those less fortunate then yourself. Check out a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, a nursing home, or an animal shelter. Besides, you might find a cute furry pet or a new Grandma.
Give unto others. Do you have a friend who's single? Do you have a friend that recently went through a breakup & is hurting more than just the normal I'm-single-on-Valentine's Day-amount? Find yourself a Valentine & spoil the crap out of them. Some cultures don't look at Valentine's Day as a day for couples, but as a day to show their love to friends. Embrace the spirit of this corny Hallmark holiday &  go out to dinner, go dancing, sing terrible karaoke...all with a friend you care about. You might find that spending the day with a friend, showing your appreciation for them & having fun, will be your best Valentine's Day ever.
Remember...sometimes in life it's not about what you don't have, but about making the most of what you do have & counting your blessings.

Unique Ideas to Celebrate Valentines Day this Year by Heather Diodati

Want to celebrate Valentine's Day in a different way? We've collected a bunch of unique ideas - special ways to show how much you care about your spouse, family members and friends you
cherish.
Heart-Felt Valentine's Meal
Make up a batch of heart-shaped pancakes for a yummy Valentine's breakfast or brunch. Just pour the batter in the frying pan in a free-form heart shape and serve with strawberries and whipped cream.
Balloon Goodies
Insert candy surprises into balloons before inflating them - add a folded-up Valentine's message then inflate each balloon. Tie with a red ribbon and attach to your loved one's chair for them
to find Valentine's morning.
Family Affair
Have the children help you prepare red Jello with cinnamon hearts mixed in, mashed potatoes colored with pink food coloring, heart-shaped cookies and any other creative ways to present your Valentine's Day meal.
The Gift of Time
Give a hand-made coupon for some work you can do to free-up some time for your spouse or parent. For example, a coupon good for cleaning Dad's garage or for a full-house vacuuming for your wife. How about a coupon for your best friend - you can walk her dog or baby sit one evening.
Coupon Day
Each of you can create individual notes, say 4 or 6 each, to describe a special surprise - a back rub, a bubble bath, kisses from head to toe, a special meal - fold up the notes and toss them into a jar. You can take turns having fun plucking a coupon from the jar and doing what it says.
Scavenger Hunt
You can prepare this one for your spouse or for your children to enjoy. Write up little notes about how you feel and what they mean to you and place them around the house along with a candy
heart or other treat. Add a riddle at the end of each note about where to find the next note. At the last note, have something special waiting there. For example, you can be waiting for your
hubby in a candle-lit bubble bath with two glasses of wine. For your children, then can find a teddy bear or other toy or treat.
Less Fortunate
Visit a hospital or chronic care home to pass out small Valentine surprises to the residents. They will enjoy the care and attention from something so unexpected.
Alone?
No one special to share Valentine's Day with? Sure you have! You! Why not pamper yourself with a candlelit bubble bath, then prepare your favorite gourmet meal and rent the latest comedy
video. Or treat yourself to a day at the spa, or a day at the gym with a step or aerobics class. Plan for Valentine's Day at least a week in advance - you'll find yourself looking forward to your special treats and your quality time with yourself, by choice.
Picnic Fun
Place a blanket on the floor near the lit fireplace with candles on the mantle and have your Valentine's meal as a candle-lit picnic with a bottle of your favorite bubbly.
Italian Romance
Some soft Italian love songs on the CD player, a luscious Fettucini Alfredo with a bottle of your favorite Italian vino, then some fresh canoli from the pastry shop and cups of amaretto-flavored coffee for a taste sensation - top it off with a sensuous scented bubble bath for two.
A Cereal Surprise
Sneak in love notes and chocolate kisses in your sweetheart's or children's cereal.
Notables
Little notes in their lunch boxes, on the bathroom mirror, in his briefcase, stuck on the car windshields, in his underwear drawer.
I'm fortunate to have you!
Mix up a batch of fortune cookies (see http://www.whimsies-online.com/valentine.htm for recipe!) and add your own little words of love.
Messy but Marvelous
Make sure you wear old clothes for this one and plan this escapade where cleanup will be easy (no carpets, please!) Make up a batch of chocolate pudding. Feed each other and wind up
having a food fight! Ideally, this is more fun in your birthday suits, then the pudding won't go to waste where it lands! <smile> Guaranteed for loads of giggles between the two of you - take a shower-for-two after this one and wash each other's chocolate-flavored hair!
Take a Letter
Take turns writing a love letter or love poem to each other. Read them out loud.
Valentine Sharing
Plan some community work - help out at the local shelter, volunteer at your local church, work with other volunteers to spread some caring amongst your community.
All in the Family
Spend some quality fun time with your niece or nephew or other child in your family.
Long-Distance Caring
Call your favorite aunt whom you haven't seen since she moved far away, or your best friend who transferred to another country - let them know you're thinking of them this Valentine's Day.
Just For You
Have you wanted that delicate pair of earrings for awhile but kept putting off the purchase? Give yourself a special Valentine's Day gift
Poetry In Motion
Write him or her a poem - can't write? Try out the poem generator onhttp://www.whimsies-online.com/valentine.htm for fun! Print out your creation and place it on your loved-one's
night table for when they awake!

A Love Poem

A Little Thing Called Love
Author: Anonymous

Love is a many splendored thing, they say,
And I believe it when you looked my way,
Out of the blue, things seemed to happen
By chance or destiny, is the question.

Living my life so long, without knowing your existence,
Then came a day we felt each others presence,
Guess what's meant to be will always find a way,
Love creeps into hearts and decides to stay.

A love so exquisite, yet so intricate,
In a world of only "you and I"
A love we can't even demonstrate,
A secret we have to keep for life.

I love you, honey, and its from my heart,
I hope you know that youre no beggar from the start,
You make me fly without wings,
You make my heart wants to sing.

Every moment I spent with you,
Is every one of my dreams coming true,
More than words, I want to show you how I feel,
Someday, some place, sometime, I will.

Love is a journey for two,
Step by step, me and you,
The future we can't see,
Let love lead the way for you and me.

Valentine's Day.

Did you know that long before Valentine's Day was a mushy, romantic Hallmark holiday that gave florists an excuse to charge $150 for a dozen roses, it was a day recognized by the Pope all the way back in the middle ages? It was meant to honor a saint named Saint Valentine, who was executed. So how did something like that turn into what we now celebrate? Well, according to legend, the night before he was to be put to death, Saint Valentine sent a love letter to his beloved. It was his jailer's daughter & he signed the card, "from your Valentine".
Over the years, the stories & legends have been changed as well as the actual date of the holiday. Nowadays, right after New Years is over, malls across the country, as well as Target & Walmart, start rolling out the red carpet (literally) & decorating for Valentine's Day. Many people profess to hate it, but it's a HUGE money maker. Do people really hate Valentine's Day, or is there a secret mush in all of us that wants to spoil our special someone or be spoiled by that person? Is it only when people are single that they hate it? I still melt over a cuddly teddy bear gripping a red satin heart or those little candy message hearts that you used to get in grade school. If anyone asked, I would say I hate Valentine's Day, that I think it's lame, but deep down, I kinda think it's cute. What does that say about me?
Do we make a fuss over this one day, because we don't think we get enough love & attention the rest of the year? Is there just a huge, romantic side to all of us that gets repressed? Does whether or not you celebrate the holiday say something about you or your relationship?
Tune in on February 15th to find out.

Learning from the Pros!

We are so excited for tonight's show on making relationships last & keeping the romance alive. We  have three amazing interviews planned with people who really are pros at keeping that spark in their love life after years with their significant other. We can't wait to hear what their secrets are...and start applying them to our own relationships. We'll also be covering one of our favorite topics---the love lives of celebrities. We can't wait to dish on the couples in the Holly-hood that have been together so long they're more retro than acid-washed jeans & slap bracelets. Mostly, with the world preparing for Valentine's Day & looking like cupid threw up all over everything, we're feeling the twinge of romance & mushy love & we are practically piddling our pants with anticipation over this month's focus...We HEART romance!!!

TUNE IN TONIGHT!!!
