Before Facebook

I remember when Facebook first hit the scene!  I was attending college in MD, and was encouraged by my friends to join this new social networking site called "Facebook".  It was reluctant to join, mostly because this was among several social sites available, and I was a member or most of the others already.  First I joined Friendster, and once I had a healthy level of connections on that site, the new craze of Myspace swept through.  I wasn't too eager to jump the Friendster ship and hop on Myspace, but since it seemed everyone else had, I had to join.  It was definitely worth it, Myspace was unique and allowed me to express myself in new and unique ways.  I could add music, and change the background of my page.  For someone who is computer illiterate, this amazing site allowed me to pretend like I in fact did know a thing or two about web design.  I had a healthy amount of friends on Myspace, and a kick ass profile page that would not only give you insight to who I am, but also what I was looking for!  What I WASN'T looking for was a new website to come along and change MY world...::enter stage left, Facebook::  I wondered, what is this new site, and why cant we all just put on Myspace!  Will this new site allow me to be as creative, and express my individuality as Myspace.  I think not!  While all of my Myspace friends (formerly known as my Friendster friends) inch by inch started moving over the Facebook, I held out and refused to join.    After several months of my friends joining Facebook, I finally gave in and decided to join.  I was determined to hold my allegiance to Myspace but felt compelled to at least check this other site out and boy was I not impressed.  I didnt quite understand the craze, it was so bland!  What was the appeal....7 years later I have no Friendster account, no Myspace account and practically live on Facebook, and as I constantly poke friends on Facebook and check my friends status updates religiously and have synced my Facebook messages to appear on my cell so I am constantly aware of what is going on with my account, I continue to wonder, what is the appeal...
